Linking is the process of connecting your STARS Record to a college. Please note: Both steps—submitting and linking—need to be completed for your STARS Record to be sent to colleges.
Linking your STARS Record can vary by college, but here are the most common methods:
-
Portal Button or Checklist
After submitting your application, look for a “Link STARS Record” button or checklist item in your college app portal. -
Personal Link via Email
Some schools will email you a unique link to connect your STARS Record to their application system. -
Manual STARS ID Entry
You may be asked to enter your STARS ID (formerly called SRAR or SSAR ID) directly into your application. -
Email Automatch
If your STARS account email matches your college application email, some colleges may automatically link your record.
Note: Both steps—submitting your STARS Record and linking it to each college—must be completed for it to be sent to colleges.
How to view linking instructions for a specific college:
-
Go to the STARS homepage.
-
Scroll down to the My Colleges and Universities dashboard.
-
Add the college you’re applying to, or locate it in your list and click “Show Details for…”
Tip: If you're redirected to a college's status portal, log in to that portal first, then look for the STARS button or checklist item!
-
Under the Current Status section, you’ll see linking instructions if your STARS Record is not yet linked.
Tip: Each college sets its own deadlines and requirements—be sure to check your application status portal, the college’s admissions website, or official communications for the most accurate information.
