If you are an international student entering your school information in STARS, you will be asked to identify whether your school follows a calendar year or U.S.-style academic year. Use the guidance below to determine which to choose.
What Is a Calendar Year Schedule?
A calendar year schedule means your school year begins at the start of the calendar year (typically January) and ends later that same year (usually November or December). This format is common in some international education systems.
When to Select This Option
Select “My school follows a calendar year schedule” if:
- Your school year starts in January, February, or March
- Your school year ends in November or December
- Your transcripts or report cards are labeled by calendar year (e.g., 2023, 2024)
When Not to Select This Option
Do not select this option if your academic year follows a U.S.-style calendar that runs from August or September through May or June.
In that case, choose: “My school follows a traditional U.S. academic year.”
Helpful Tip
Tip: Review your transcript or school documents to confirm your school’s academic calendar. Choosing the correct calendar format ensures STARS displays the correct academic years for entering coursework.
