If you attended high school outside the U.S. and have been asked to record standardized exam scores—such as the ACT, SAT, IB, IELTS, or TOEFL—you can add them in the Enter Exams section of your STARS record.
Alert: Do not use this section to report international leaving exams (like A-Levels, CBSE, or WASSCE). Those should be entered in the Enter Coursework section.
Steps to report a test score:
- Log in to the main STARS website or the university branded STARS Record.
- Go to Enter Exams and click Add New Exams.
- Scroll through the list and select the exam you want to report.
- Enter the month and year you took the exam.
- Add your exam score.
- Click Save Exams.
You may enter multiple test scores for the same exam. For example, if you took the SAT twice, you can report scores for each date.
Superscoring (if available)
If you're logged into a university-branded STARS Record, you may see the option to superscore certain exams (like the ACT or SAT). This allows you to combine your highest section scores from different test dates into one composite score.
How to check if a university will see your scores:
- Log in to STARS through the university's applicant portal or through the main STARS site.
- If using the main STARS site:
- Add the university to your dashboard.
- Click Show details for...
- Click Test Optional Preferences for...
If your university has a test-optional section, it will appear at the top of the Enter Exams page. Be sure to complete this section to indicate whether you want to send scores—and which ones—to that university.
Tip: Not all universities collect exam scores through STARS. Check your university’s instructions.
Tip: Exam scores entered on the main STARS site are not automatically sent to universities.
Tip: If the university has a test-optional policy use the Test Optional Preferences section to control which scores are shared.
