Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your STARS account. Even if someone else knows your password, they won’t be able to access your account without a unique code from your mobile device.
Step 1: Download Microsoft Authenticator
To enable 2FA, you’ll need a Time-Based One-Time Password (TOTP) app. We recommend Microsoft Authenticator, available for free on:
Step 2: Start Setup on STARS
- Log in to your STARS account.
- Click your profile icon in the top-right corner.
- Click Enhanced Account Security / Recovery Options.
- Click Set Up Two-Factor Authentication.
- Keep the QR code screen open for the next step.
Step 3: Link Microsoft Authenticator
- On your mobile device, open Microsoft Authenticator.
- Tap the Add icon or Add Account.
- Scan the QR code shown on your STARS screen. If you can’t scan, tap Enter code manually and use the 15-digit code provided.
- After setup, the app will display a 6-digit code that refreshes every 30 seconds.
Step 4: Use Two-Factor Authentication
Each time you log in, enter your password and then use Microsoft Authenticator to retrieve and enter the current 6-digit code. Learn More.
Note: You’ll need access to both a computer and mobile device for setup.
Note: The 15-digit code used during setup is not your login code. Always use the 6-digit code from the app when signing in.
