If your school uses a quarter system, use the guidance below to correctly choose the Course Length and enter grades in STARS.
What Is a Quarter System?
A quarter system divides the academic year into four grading periods:
- Quarter 1 (Q1)
- Quarter 2 (Q2)
- Quarter 3 (Q3)
- Quarter 4 (Q4)
How to Enter Quarterly Courses
If your transcript shows grades for each quarter:
- Select Quarterly as the Course Length.
- Enter the final grade for each quarter as listed on your transcript.
If the course lasted one quarter:
- Select Quarterly.
- Enter the grade in the quarter the course was completed.
- Leave the other quarter fields blank.
If the course lasted two quarters:
- Select Quarterly.
- Enter the grades in the two completed quarters.
- Leave the other quarters blank.
If the course lasted three quarters:
- Select Quarterly.
- Enter the grades in the three completed quarters.
- Leave the remaining quarter blank.
If the transcript shows one final grade for two quarters:
- Select Semester as the Course Length.
- Enter the final grade in one of the semester fields and leave the other blank.
Helpful Tip
Tip: Only select “Quarterly” if your transcript shows distinct grades for each quarter. Otherwise, choose the course length that reflects how the final grade was awarded.
