If you attended an international school, you'll need to enter your course grades using the grading scale used at your school. STARS allows you to select different grade scales for each course, so you can accurately report your academic record.
How to Record Grades for International Courses
On the Enter High Schools Screen:
- Add your international school and the dates of attendance.
- Choose the final education system / curriculum (e.g., IB, IGCSE, WASSCE) for the school.
- Choose the grade scale:
-
- Letter Grades
- Number Grades
- Letter and Number Grades
- Decimal Grades
- Narrative / Descriptive (e.g., Excellent, Good, Fair)
-
On the Enter Coursework Screen:
- Complete the number to letter grade scale conversion, if necessary
- Select an academic year to begin entering your courses
- Before you record the first course or exam for an academic year, select the education system / curriculum for the academic year and the U.S. High School equivalent grade level.
- Double-check or update the education system and grade scale for each course. For programs like IB, be sure to choose the correct proficiency level and grade scale.
- Type in the exact grades you earned for each term (semester, trimester, year, etc.) or each exam.
- If none of the grade scales are applicable, you may select Something Not Listed Here which will enable you to record a numeric grade and the highest possible grade you can earn in the course or exam.
- If none of the grade scales are applicable, and the grade is above 200, return to the Enter High Schools screen to select the Narrative / Descriptive scale. When you record the course data, you will be able to record the numeric grade above 200.
- Be sure to save your entries for each course.
